A CONVERSATION WITH THE LAST WHITE BUFFALO is simultaneously a choreographic film and a performance piece. It was conceived for sand dunes, which represent the slow accumulation of time and therein provide a context for gesture, sequence, and textures of the body which enable two dancers to discover glyphs of the generative process by which simple impulses result in complex images. We use the archetype of the white buffalo. The white buffalo is near extinction. And somehow “the conversation” with this thing which is imminently invisible or imminently disappeared is also a dialogue with the presence the infinitely unseen. Exploring “the shadow”, “the echo”, and “the reflection”, movement researchers Anni Taskula and Josseline Black engage the viewer in a kind of communicative archaic logic which questions evolution and duality.
