Dju Dju, has a spectrum of interpretations ranging from luck/fortune/energy residing behind a fetish (juju), to wild resilient plants (yuyo) to the french endearment “my little cabbage” (chou-chou). In this installation-intervention in public space, it is an airy, interactive, living organism. Its form and function follow a complex logic but also are interwoven as reminder of basic sustainable social practices.

Conceived at the spot where “zur Reuse” appeared in the winter of 2014, Dju Dju hosts multifaceted discourse and a series of local and international artistic residencies. It is temporary in its manifestation but hopefully the impact will linger, which will include a rebirth in Spring of 2016.

Consequently, this space as an ephemeral one raises the question of how “the invisible” manifests, takes shape, and returns to mystery. So too, Dju Dju is a source of potential and perpetuates an almost primitive reverie. In the words of Gaston Bachelard “If we remain at the heart of the image under consideration, we have the impression that, by staying in the motionlessness of its shell, the creature is preparing temporal explosions, not to say whirlwinds, of being”
